Welcome to Learning and Culture

Learning and Culture is a 'division' within the Community Services Directorate and is central to the Council's delivery of community, lifelong learning and wellbeing priorities. We also have a key role in contributing to the county's economic growth through skills development, tourism and creative industries.

Our services provide both the fundamentals for good quality of life – libraries, heritage, arts, access to the countryside, etc and also, through developmental services, a whole range of opportunities for learning, enjoyment and stimulation.

• we encourage physical wellbeing – be it a walk in the countryside with our Walking for Life project or yoga classes at the Gateway in Shrewsbury.
• we stimulate mental wellbeing – through the reminiscence project, our IT courses or reading one of our 480,000 books
• we facilitate social wellbeing in our libraries, our learning centres and through Enable
• we nurture emotional wellbeing by helping people to get the most out of life
• we act as a catalyst for community wellbeing through our arts events, museum on the move and our mobile library services.

Our division is a hybrid of both learning and fun. Through our services we improve people's quality of life – we make people feel good.
