Digit counters provide a practical means of “handling numbers”. They provide an alternative to using digit cards which means that many games that were devised for the use of cards can also be played with the counters.
The interactive nature of number games provides an enjoyable context for pupils and one in which their exposure to a limited range of basic number facts is significantly intensified, promoting confidence.
The games detailed in the publication are designed to develop:
- knowledge of number bonds
- strategies for adding several numbers
- understanding the relationship between addition and subtraction
- understanding of place value
- knowledge of multiplication facts
- use of remainders when multiplying and dividing
- ability to apply logic when interpreting data presented in tables
Each Digit Counters pack contains an A5 booklet with a pack of counters (150 of each digit; 1 - 9) and a CD, and costs £36.75 per pack, or 2 packs for £69.50.
