Register of Electors
The Electoral Registration Officer publishes two versions of the Register of Electors. They are known as the Full Register and the Edited Register.
The Registers are published in street order within polling districts in each of Shropshire's parliamentary constituencies - Ludlow, North Shropshire, Shrewsbury & Atcham and Wrekin (part). The Registers are not published alphabetically in name order.
Full Register
This lists the name and address of everyone who is registered to vote and is published on 1 December each year. Monthly updates are published between January and September, but after that time, no new additions, deletions or changes can be made to that Register.
You do not have a choice about your details being on this Register. Anyone can look at it, but copies can only be supplied for certain purposes.
The primary use of the Full Register is to show who can vote in elections and referendums. Credit Reference Agencies can use it, but only to check your name and address if you are applying for credit. It can also be used for law enforcement.
Edited Register
This is available for general sale and can be used for any purpose. You can choose NOT to be on the Edited Register, which is kept separate from the Full Register. This is sometimes referred to as "opting out".
The Edited Register can be bought by any person, company or organisation and can be used for commercial activities such as marketing.
The Edited Register is available for sale in either paper or data format, and charges are made per 1000 electors or part thereof. Anyone wishing to purchase the Edited Register should contact the Electoral Services Office on 0345 678 9015 to obtain a quote for the area(s) they wish to purchase.
Inspecting the Register
The Registers are published in various constituencies based on Parliamentary boundaries - Ludlow, North Shropshire, Shrewsbury & Atcham and Wrekin (part).
All current Full and Edited Registers are available for inspection at the Shirehall in Shrewsbury and you may make an appointment to view them by telephoning 0345 678 9015. Access to the Registers is restricted to 30 minute periods only and you should telephone the Elections Team in advance to make an appointment to view them. Your viewing session will be supervised by a member of the Elections Team.
