Shropshire as other counties has a Lord-Lieutenant who is the Queen’s representative in the county. The present Lord-Lieutenant is Algernon Heber-Percy Esq.
The Lord-Lieutenant appoints Deputy Lieutenants to assist him, and appoints one of these as the Vice Lord-Lieutenant who undertakes such duties as the Lord-Lieutenant determines, and represents him when he is absent or otherwise unable to act. The current Vice Lord-Lieutenant is Col. Edmund Thewles OBE DL.
The Lord-Lieutenant, Vice Lord-Lieutenant and Deputy Lieutenants are collectively referred to as the Lieutenancy.
