The Legal Services section provides legal advice and services to councillors and officers of the council.

The head of the department is Claire Porter, Corporate Head of Legal and Democratic Services, who also acts as the council's Monitoring Officer.

The main objectives of Legal Services are:

• To provide a top quality and timely legal support service
• To give effective advice and information to ensure that all council decisions are made with a full understanding of the law
• To help all council services to achieve their goals

Please note that the service is not empowered to provide legal advice to members of the public or local businesses. For personal legal advice contact your own solicitor or your local Citizens Advice Bureau.
