Public question time

Have your say at public question time

You elected county councillors to represent you. Is there anything you want to tell them to influence the decisions they make?

One of the ways you can do this is to speak to councillors in public question time at the beginning of most council meetings.

This is a 30 minute slot, with individuals given up to three minutes to speak. You can ask a question, state your case, or present a petition. The question and response will be tabled at the meeting, after which you will have the right to ask a supplementary question (provided that it relates to the original question and/or the portfolio holder/Leader's reply).

For full Council meetings we need five clear working days' notice of your intention to speak. For other committee meetings we need at least one clear working day's notice. You can put forward your request to speak at public question time by:

  • completing the online form (please follow the Public question time submission online link);
  • printing and completing the Public question time submission form attached to this page and posting it to us; or
  • e-mailing, telephoning or writing to Geraldine Childerhouse - Principal Committee Officer as detailed on the top right-hand side of this page.

Upon receiving your submission we will contact you and tell you when you will have the opportunity to speak.

Planning Committee

At Planning Committee only one person who objects to the application and one person who supports the application will be allowed to address councillors on any one application. It is therefore very important that you think about making contact with anyone else supporting the application (if you are supporting it), or objecting to it (if you are objecting to it) to coordinate you responses. For further information, please see the code for public speaking at Planning Committee publication link on this page.

Rights of Way

For further information on public speaking at Rights of Way committee meetings, please see the code for public speaking at Rights of Way publication link on this page.
