What services do we provide?
VTTS is based at Helena Lane in Ludlow and has a purpose-designed technology suite providing demonstrations on specialist equipment and software, including computers with access software (magnification/screen readers), voice activation software and computers with easy-to-use menus, large keyboards and portable electronic magnifiers, together with individually designed computer training on a one-to-one basis to help people with a visual impairment regain their independence.
VTTS provide opportunities for people with visual impairments to use technology to communicate through email and the internet, or just to learn how to switch on a computer and use it as a tool to help read print, write letters or even pay your bills and do shopping online.
We also offer assessments on low-vision equipment, advice and information relating to visual impairments and organisations such as RNIB, Shropshire Voluntary Association for the Blind and the services they provide.
VTTS is a leading partner of See and Hear Shropshire, and following the recent success of our exhibition in May we are delighted to announce the date for next year as Wednesday 15 May 2013.
Training
The training we offer is on a one-to-one basis and is tailored to meet individual needs. Our highly experienced ICT trainers provide support with suitable resources, such as large print, Braille and audio CDs. There is no need to have a computer at home, but we suggest you ask our advice prior to purchasing a computer.
Contact us
Anyone can contact us, via the details on this page, if they feel that they or someone they know would benefit from an assessment for ICT training, specialist equipment or to enquire about our services.
If you do feel that your eyesight is not so good these days and that you are finding it difficult to read the newspaper or your post, if you want to learn something different which can help you read books, write or take up a new hobby, but you're not sure where to start, then why not contact VTTS at Helena Lane and find out more about the service we provide.
The service covers the Shropshire Council area, and if you are unable to travel to Ludlow where all our equipment is available for demonstration we can offer appointments more local to your area. However, the range of equipment will be more limited.
Other venues include The Lantern in Shrewsbury, Oswestry and Bridgnorth Libraries. In some circumstances we can visit you at home with specific items of interest.
In addition, on the first Thursday of every month VTTS will be on the See and Hear Van at the Outpatients Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, parked opposite the bus stop between 10am and 2pm. No appointment necessary.
