- by referral to Social Care - You or someone acting on your behalf can refer you. Please contact your nearest social care team to make a referral, please follow the link to contact details on this page. You will be given an assessment of your care needs at home by an Occupational Therapist who will advise you of the most appropriate equipment to meet your needs. Due to extensive demand social care may suggest you contact the Disability Living Centre directly to ensure you receive the appropriate equipment as soon as possible.
Will I have to pay for equipment?
Following an assessment, Social Care (or the Health Authority) can provide certain items of equipment free of charge provided you meet the eligibility criteria.
If you are assessed at the Disabled Living Centre they will give you free advice and information about equipment, where to purchase it and approximate cost. They can also make a request to social care or the Health Authority if appropriate.
All equipment provided by the Disabled Living Centre is on loan to you and remains the property of the community equipment service.
If you decide to buy equipment you will need to pay for this yourself.
