
The health and well-being of the family carer is important to Shropshire Council. To promote this statement Shropshire Council funds several carers project with the Community Council of Shropshire.
The Community Council of Shropshire Team Leader for Adults with Learning Disabilities Carers Team supports and promote the role of family carers of adults with learning disabilities in Shropshire.
The Team Leader manages a team of Older Family Carer Support Workers (OFCSW) The OFCSW work with families where the carer is over 60 years and the person with a learning disabilities is still living at home.
OFCSW can assist families:
- in completing a carers assessment on behalf of SCC
- in maximising their benefits
- Planning for the future regarding their caring responsibilities
- in creating an emergency plan to give them peace of mind
- with practical support such as writing letter to their local authorities and other agencies
- organising social trips for individual family carers and small groups
- with emotional support by providing regular contact
The role of the OFCSW is to:
- provide links with other services
- visit or contact you regularly to build relationships and trust
- reduce isolation for the family carer
- assist the family carer in looking after their health and well-being
