Community Living

The Community Living Team provide services for vulnerable adults to enable them to live independently in ordinary housing, within their community, whether they are a private/social tenant or a home owner.

The team currently supports 40 people in various situations all over Shropshire and offer a service centred around the individual to ensure we help promote their goals and aspirations.

What we offer

We support individuals by:

  • assisting with home and domestic tasks
  • maintaining family links
  • promoting new opportunities through accessing leisure and community based activities
  • assisting clients to set up and maintain community networks
  • assisting with budgeting and running a household
  • offering benefit advice and assistance with new claims
  • supporting individuals to gain and retain employment
  • advising on health, diet and medication
  • assisting with the development of new skills
  • providing links to other services

Our staff

All our support staff receive regular training and management supervision to help them to fulfil their support role.

All support staff are required to complete an NVQ to level 2 or 3 and currently 81% of staff are qualified or are working towards an NVQ.

To ensure consistency, Community Living employ support staff to work with specific individuals who are encouraged to participate in the interview process and selection of their workers.

Excellent rating by the Care Quality Commission

Community Living is a registered domiciliary care agency and is registered to provide care services for adults with learning disabilities.

We are inspected by The Care Quality Commission (CQC) and are very proud that our service was awarded excellent at our last inspection.

What our service users think about Community Living

Community Living Service user Tony Ford supported the team when he was asked to take part in a Radio Shropshire interview.

Tony was one of a number of service users and staff that were interviewed by Radio Shropshire’s Richard Tisdale when he visited service users at home over Christmas.

Tony explained “my support staff help me with budgeting, helping me at home, help me with my medication and help me go out places. Also the staff and everyone in the office are wonderful and do a lot, I give them 10 out of 10”.

Tony has received support from the Community Living Team for more than 15 years and has lived in a number of locations, sharing with others and then living independently. Wherever Tony has lived his support has moved with him and over the years Tony has become an expert in directing his support worker to helping him in whatever way he needs.

Tony hopes to continue to live independently in the community and is working towards gaining his black belt in jujitsu.

Emergency telephone service

Community Living offers a 24 hour emergency telephone system operated by members of the management team.

This provides support for service users outside normal office hours, which has become an essential part of the service for those who live semi independently.
