Welcome to Education at the Discovery Centre
You are invited to discover an exciting educational experience at the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre, where a wide range of learning activities linked closely with National Curriculum, a purpose built visitors centre and inspirational landscape await you.
We aim to encourage learning through active participation, enquiry and first-hand observation, thus appealing to a wide range of ages, abilities and interests. Our Education and Learning Team are available to lead activities selected from our flexible programme or to provide help and advice for organising your own itinerary.
Follow the links on the right hand side of this page to find out more about our led activities and follow the contact details links to request a free Primary Education Pack.
FREE pre and post visit teaching materials ensure that your visit compliments and reinforces classroom learning. Schools have the use of a dedicated classroom and 25 acres of land, in addition to the centre’s own permanent exhibition.
Developments for 2008 at the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre
From Spring 2008 we will have a new exhibition, a new cafe, a new workshop, and a new community library. For all these improvements to be implemented the centre is closed from 1 October 2007 to Spring 2008.
During this time we will still be offering our outreach programme.
You can also contact us to make a booking for 2008, please call us on 01588 673676.

Organised activity rates
If you choose an option from our diverse programme of activities charges are on a sliding scale based on the number of children in your group:
This charge includes the leadership of one of our Education and Learning team and pre and post visit teaching suggestions. Where groups exceed 35 children, they will be split into two for the day and each will be lead by one of our team. There are a few exceptions to this pricing structure, for example where health and safety considerations mean numbers are more limited. Where this applies it is clearly stated in the activity details.
Secondary Schools, SEN and adult groups with learning difficulties
Many of our activities for primary schools can be adapted for lower KS3 groups too but we are happy to work with individual schools to enable them to achieve their intended aims and objectives for a visit.
We also have a selection of activities suitable for SEN groups and adult groups with learning difficulties. Follow the link on the right hand side of the page to find out more.
Outreach
We have a small, but expanding, number of outreach activities suitable for both the classroom and after-school clubs or other groups. Follow the link to find out more.
