Working in partnership to tackle drug and alcohol issues in Shropshire
The Safer Stronger Communities Partnership is the statutory body responsible for implementing the National Drug and Alcohol Strategies.
A new National Drug Strategy named 'Drugs:protecting families and communities' was introduced in April 2008. The Strategy aims to produce a long-term reduction in the harms associated with drugs by:
- Protecting communities through robust enforcement to tackle drug supply, drug-related crime and antisocial behaviour.
- Preventing harm to children, young people and families affected by drug misuse.
- Delivering new approaches to drug treatment and social re-integration.
- The use of public information campaigns, communications and community engagement.
The partnership is also responsible for coordinating the implementation of the National Alcohol Strategy in Shropshire. The National Alcohol Strategy was also updated in 2008 and is named Safe.Sensible. Social. The National Alcohol Strategy is based around three themes:
- Community Safety, Crime and Antisocial Behaviour
- Health
- Children and Young People
