There is a range of agencies and services working together to reduce the harm drugs and alcohol can cause to young people.
The Young People's Joint Commissioning Group for Substance Misuse forms the partnership group responsible for the delivery of young people's substance misuse treatment in Shropshire. This group works to the Shropshire Children's Trust and Safer Stronger Communities Partnership. These partnership bodies ensure services are developed in line with national guidance and key policy documents such as Every Child Matters.
The Young People’s Treatment Plan sets out how the Partnership works to:
- understand needs and local issues
- identify young people and parents in need of support
- provide targeted interventions for vulnerable young people
- deliver treatment services designed to meet the needs of young people
The key themes of the treatment plan are prescribed by the National Treatment Agency and Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF). The 4 themes ensure that local partnerships consider how young people will access support and continue to receive support once their specialist substance misuse needs have been met:
- Commissioning and system management
- Access to treatment
- Treatment system delivery
- Leaving specialist treatment
A copy of part 1 of the Shropshire Young People’s Substance Misuse Plan will be available on this page in the summer 2009.
