What is the Family Information Service?

We provide free information, advice and support on all aspects of family life. Whether you're expecting a baby or have young children or teenagers, we can support you and any carer or other family member involved. Contact us at shropshireFIS@shropshire.gov.uk or on 01743 254400.

The Shropshire childcare finder

We hold information on all aspects of childcare, early years and play settings in Shropshire, including childminders, day nurseries, pre-school playgroups, out of school activities and clubs, holiday play schemes and carer and toddler groups. We also offer help and advice on how to choose a quality setting to meet the needs of your child or young person, and specific information on the following:

Family support

Information on organisations which can offer advice and support on some of the issues or concerns any family may encounter, including a wide range of information for parents of children with disabilities or additional needs  

Paying for childcare

Information on help available towards the costs of childcare and other family benefits, including free nursery education funding, tax credits, and employer childcare vouchers.

Brokerage service

Additional support for parents and carers who are struggling to find childcare that meets the needs of their family, or who are finding it hard to access services.

Shropshire Family Information Directory (FIDy)

An online database listing local and national organisations and services that exist to support families, covering topics such as parenting, support groups, domestic abuse, drugs and alcohol, health and safety, disabilities and additional needs, and general family support.

You can also add details of a local event, and social or support groups.

Information and Resource Library

A wide range of information and resource packs are available, listing support services, booklets and leaflets on a range of difficulties many families may face.
