This section outlines the services Shropshire Council offers which may be of use to businesses. Opportunities for doing business with the council

Public Protection (including Trading Standards and Licensing)
Under the new Shropshire Council, Trading Standards, Environmental Health, Pest Control, Licensing and Bereavement Services form a new department called ‘Public Protection’.
Planning
The Council deals with all planning applications for domestic and non domestic premises, waste and minerals developments relating to the council’s own services (such as education). Follow the link on this page to access the Planning home page.
Business Rates
Business rates, also known as national non-domestic rates (NNDR), is a property-based tax payable on most non-domestic properties such as shops, offices, commercial and industrial premises. Valuation is based on an assessment of rental value.
The rate of tax is set by the Government, who receive the proceeds and then redistribute them to local authorities on the basis of population. Following the link for further information.
Environmental Health
Shropshire Council’s environmental health services will be delivered by the council’s three area public protection teams from 1 April.
Environmental health services delivered by the council fall under the following areas:

Health and safety
Pollution - e.g. noise and smoke

Waste and recycling
The Council deals with waste. You can find details of the advice available to businesses on our waste pages.
Highways
If you want to report a fault on the highway, such as a street light not working, you can use an online form. If you wish to carry out street works, planting or decorating on the highway you will need to get permission.
