New bowls and social club to be built
A £100,000 project that will see the old bowls club demolished and rebuilt in a new location on the site, is a step closer after Shropshire Council granted it £25,000 from the Market Towns Revitalisation Programme recently.
The scheme will not only be of benefit to the very strong bowls club in the town, but will also mean that the building can be open all year round and host a range of other activities which have been lost to the town over recent years such as dominoes and darts etc.

Background
Under Shropshire Council’s new Market Towns Revitalisation Programme, Craven Arms is one of eleven towns that can bid for a share of £500,000, which is available to spend on projects that would provide an immediate boost to the town.
The Shropshire councillors representing the town are now working with town councillors and the local community to identify and prioritise projects.
Under this £500,000 ‘capital initiatives fund’ the maximum support for any individual project is £50,000. Councillors can submit up to two projects per town with a combined aggregate limit of £75,000. The aim is for every town to receive funding for at least one project.
Since the scheme was launched Shropshire councillors have been working hard to seek the views of local residents. A drop-in event was held in January for residents to come along and put forward their ideas. Over 50 people attended this session with some excellent suggestions being made.
The town council and local joint committee have also been asked to put forward proposals.
There is still funding available for projects in Craven Arms, but the local members and town council are keen to support the community centre to improve its longer-term viability and revenue generation capacity.
