Energy conservation in council buildings

The Energy and Sustainable Buildings Unit works closely with building design and maintenance staff to design and maintain Shropshire County Council's buildings in a more sustainable way.

Our aims are to:

  • Seek ways to reduce energy consumption and costs.
  • Meet carbon dioxide (CO2) emission reduction targets set by central government.
  • Take forward the council's Sustainable Construction Policy.
  • Explore innovative ways of producing energy, including using renewable sources.

The council's draft Sustainable Construction Policy outlines the principles that we are striving to adopt. The policy will provide a reference manual for the design, construction and refurbishment of County Council buildings. There is a link to further information on this page.

Examples of projects that the Energy and Sustainable Buildings Unit have been involved in include the following:

  • ground source heat pump project at Buntingsdale Infant School
  • developing a monitoring and targeting system
  • energy audits
  • school caretaker energy management training events
  • Building Energy Management System (BEMS) installations
  • local energy ownership in schools scheme
  • air source heat pump installations

Further details on these projects can be found by following the links on this page.
