Air quality management areas (AQMA)

There are currently two Air Quality Management Areas (AQMAs) in the Shropshire Council area. Please click on the links below to view maps showing their location and extent:

Only the Shrewsbury Town Centre and Bridgnorth Pound Street AQMAs still exceed legislative levels prescribed to safeguard the health of those living within them.

Significant reductions are required at these locations to bring down pollution levels. Shropshire Council’s Air Quality Action Plans (AQAPs) suggest ways in which these reductions could be made. Individual actions can help make a difference.

Detailed assessments of the Heathgates and Bayston Hill AQMA have been completed and the conclusions accepted by DEFRA. Consultation will take place to revoke these in line with DEFRA comments in 2017/18.
