What can you do about dog fouling?
Dog fouling is both unpleasant and potentially dangerous, as dog faeces carry bacteria that can harm children.
The council cannot prevent dog fouling, but we can encourage dog owners to be more responsible. We carry out patrols and educational talks to schools to highlight the problems of dog fouling.
It is an offence, punishable by a fine, to fail to clean up after your dog who has fouled the footpath or any other designated area.
How can I complain about dog fouling?
If you find an area is subject to severe or persistent fouling by dogs, please let us know. You can report this by completing our online form or telephone 0345 678 9006
We will investigate, take any necessary action to clean up the area and, where possible, deal with the cause of the problem.
Hygiene and Safety
Always use a 'poop scoop' to remove dog faeces. They only cost a few pence and can be bought from most pet shops, alternatively, you can use a small plastic bag. Dispose of the 'poop scoop' hygienically by placing in a dog bin, if there is one nearby, or by taking it home and placing it in your own wheeled bin. Dog faeces can also be disposed of by placing them in an ordinary public litter bin, however they must be in a plastic bag or 'poop scoop'. Always wash your hands after using a 'poop scoop', before you smoke or handle food.
