Report a stray dog

Dog warden service

The Environmental Maintenance teams at Shropshire Council take reports of lost, straying or found dogs from members of the public.

Did you know?

Dogs MUST wear a collar and tag showing the owner's contact details when out in public. It is an offence liable for a fine of up to £1000 not to ensure your dog displays these details. (The only exception applies to dogs working at the time.)
It also makes sense for your dog to be microchipped. All stray dogs will be scanned to allow more rapid return to the owner.
Ask your vet for more details or alternatively contact our Environmental Maintenance service on 0345 678 9006.

Dog Log

Shropshire Council keeps a log of all dogs found within Shropshire and all dogs reported to us as lost.
It is our aim to reunite lost dogs with their owners as soon as possible.

Enforcement

The dog warden will not be able to patrol all of the county all of the time. We will, therefore, rely on you to report offenders who persistently allow their dogs to foul public areas in contravention of the bye-laws. In most cases we will deal with complaints on an informal basis, we will, however, prosecute persistent offenders.
