
The Annual Business Inquiry is a national survey carried out by the Office for National Statistics, which records employee jobs located in Shropshire by type and industry. These figures exclude the self-employed and HM Forces.
- In 2008 there were 109,100 employee jobs located in Shropshire.
- 50.9% of employee jobs were occupied by men and 49.1% by women.
- Male full-time jobs account for 40.8% of the total, male part-time 8.0%, female full-time 25.8% and female part-time 25.5%.
- Nearly half of employees work in two sectors, public administration, education and health (30.9%) and retail, wholesale and repair of motor vehicles (19.3%). Manufacturing accounts for a further 10.8% of the total.
- The service sector is the largest employer in Shropshire, accounting for 81.5% of all jobs.
