The Annual Business Inquiry is a national survey carried out by the Office for National Statistics, which records employee jobs located in Shropshire by type and industry. These figures exclude the self-employed and HM Forces.

  • In 2006 there were 110,300 employee jobs located in Shropshire.
  • 50% of employee jobs were occupied by men and 50% by women.
  • Male full-time jobs account for 42% of the total, male part-time 8.0%, female full-time 24.0% and female part-time 26%.
  • Over half the employees work in two sectors, public administration, education and health (29.0%) and distribution, hotels and restaurants (25.6%). Manufacturing accounts for a further 12.2% of the total. Agriculture accounts for 3.4% of employee jobs.
  • The service sector, is the largest employer in Shropshire, accounting for 77.8% of all jobs.
