What is the purpose of this domain?
The purpose of this domain is to measure areas with relatively high rates of people who die prematurely or whose quality of life is impaired by poor health or who are disabled, across the whole population. It measures:
- Years of potential life lost (2001 - 2005).
- Comparative illness and disability ratio (2005).
- Measures of emergency admissions to hospital (2003 - 2005).
- The proportion of adults under 60 suffering from mood or anxiety disorders based on prescribing, suicide mortality rate, hospital admissions and health benefits data (2001-2005).
Our results
- The three most deprived Super Output Areas in Shropshire are located in Harlescott Ward, Meole Brace Ward, Monkmoor Ward and Sutton and Reabrook Ward all in Shrewsbury. These areas fall into the 20% most deprived nationally and represent 2% of the Shropshire population.
- Shrewsbury and Atcham is the only District with a proportion of its population living in the most deprived fifth of areas in England (6% - this represents a 3% increase from 2004).
- The more rural districts of Bridgnorth and South Shropshire have lower levels of health deprivation.
