
This domain is split into two sub-domains: one relating to education deprivation in terms of education deprivation for children / young people, and one relating to lack of skills and qualifications among the working age adult population.
Sub domain: children / young people
- Average points score of children at Key Stage 2 (2004-2005).
- Average points score of children at Key Stage 3 (2004-2005).
- Best of eight average capped points score at Key Stage 4 (includes results of GCSEs, GNVQs and other vocational equivalents) (2004-2005).
- Proportion of young people not staying on in school or school level education above 16 (2005).
- Proportion of those aged under 21 not entering Higher Education (2002-2005).
- Secondary school absence rate (2004-2005).
Sub domain: skills
- Proportions of working age adults (aged 25-54) in the area with no or low qualifications (2001).
Key results:
- 6% of Shropshire's population live within the most deprived fifth of areas in England and 22% within the least deprived fifth. An SOA in Harlescott is the most deprived overall.
- In terms of the children and young people's sub-domain, 4% of the county's population live within the most deprived fifth of areas in England and 30% within the least.
- The county is more deprived when looking at working age adults with no or low qualifications, with 13% of Shropshire's population falling within the most deprived fifth of areas in England and only 9% within the least.
