Index of multiple deprivation - living environment

Living environment

This domain measures deprivation relating to characteristics of the living environment. It includes two sub-domains:

The 'indoors' living environment - this measures quality of housing. The scores are derived from the following indicators:

  • Social and private housing in poor condition (2003-2005)
  • Houses without central heating (2001)

The 'outdoors' living environment - this contains measures about air quality and road traffic accidents. Indicators used to calculate scores:

  • Air quality (2005)
  • Road traffic accidents involving injury to pedestrians and cyclists (2004-2006)
