Results from the 2010 mid year population estimates show that there are 293,400 people in total living in Shropshire. The population density in Shropshire is 0.92 persons per hectare (ha) or 237.7 persons per square mile compared to a national figure of 4.0 persons per ha or 1,037.3 persons per square mile. The area of Shropshire is 319,736 hectares or 1,235 square miles.
Mid year population estimates giving population by sex and age are published annually by the Office for National Statistics, (c) Crown Copyright 2011. These estimates cover the periods between the census, which is undertaken every ten years.
