Shropshire County Council believes that every child has a right to develop his or her potential in its own family. Where a child is unable to live with their family, either temporarily or permanently, we believe in their right to family based care.
This will be provided in various forms such as, fostering, respite care or adoption. It is recognised that the most appropriate choice for some children may be good quality residential care. We aim to recruit a range of carers so that children can be looked after where their racial, cultural, religious, emotional, social and psychological needs can be met.
Fostering in Shropshire involves an active partnership between Social Care and Health, foster carers, children and their families to achieve security for the child’s future. Children placed in foster care have a right to maintain meaningful contact with their families and community of origin, unless particular circumstances indicate that such contact is not in their best interests.
At all stages of work with children, we will seek to understand their wishes and feelings and take them into account. We believe that children in our care should be protected from the harmful effects of tobacco smoke and have a policy that no child under three years old will normally be placed with carers who smoke.
If you are interested in becoming a foster carer please call our free phone enquiry line on 0800 7838 798 or complete our on-line request for further information on foster care form so that we can send you an information pack.
If you are a young person in care and would like further information on your rights, health, pocket money and much more then why not take a look at our children in care in Shropshire pages.
