The rewards of being a foster carer

Being a foster carer can be physically and emotionally demanding, but it is also an incredibly rewarding experience:

  • the satisfaction of seeing the child or teenager and parents happily reunited
  • a sense of breakthrough when a young person finally begins to build a relationship with you
  • the delights when an unhappy toddler smiles

You will receive a weekly fostering allowance to cover the expenses of caring for a child. This will vary depending on the age of the child. Details of Shropshire's weekly fostering allowances can be seen in the attached document.

You will be offered relevant training opportunities to build on your existing skills and to develop new ones and this will be recognised by the payment of a fee per household in addition to the weekly fostering allowances. Details of these skills based payments can also be seen in the attached document.
