Target audience
New governors and existing governors who wish to revisit and clarify the role and responsibilities of governors
Course content
The course is delivered as two complementary afternoon sessions. It is designed for recently appointed and existing governors, and explains clearly the role and responsibilities of governors. During the course, existing governors may wish to give practical examples of their own experience as a basis for discussion.
Intended outcomes
Clarification of:
- the characteristics of effective schools
- the key roles and responsibilities of governing bodies in improving schools
- the different and complementary roles of governors and headteachers
- how to be effective on their own governing bodies
- the importance of sound working relationships with all staff, parents, local authority, Diocesan Boards and local communities.

the governing body as a critical friend:
