Being evicted means that you have been asked to leave your accommodation by your landlord or the person who owns the property. Evictions can occur for a range of reasons: failures to pay the rent, poor upkeep of the property or a relationship breakdown are just a few of the reasons why you might be told to leave.
Getting advice immediately will help you to stay within your property longer. Via a housing / homelessness advisor, you may be able to negotiate with your landlord or access benefits to allow you to stay within the property.
Whether you have to leave the property or not will depend on a number of things:
- If you own your property or if you are a tenant
- If your landlord lives with you
- When you moved in
- If you are being asked to leave by a spouse or partner
- If you are being asked to leave by friends or family
