To apply as homeless, you need to get in touch with Shropshire Council Housing Options Team/statutory housing authority. They will invite you to come into the office and have an interview with a homelessness officer or housing advice officer depending on your situation.
- Should you be considered in need of housing advice and guidance you will receive this information on the day you approach the organisation for help or alternatively you will be referred to another agency in the area who are more specific to the advice that you are seeking.
- Should you approach the Council and literally be ‘roofless’ you will normally be seen by a homelessness officer as soon as can be arranged that day.
- If you are considered homeless or potentially homeless, you will be asked to return to the office at another date to attend an interview with a Homelessness Officer.
During the interview, you will be asked a series of questions. These questions will enable the homelessness officer to understand your situation and your requirements. In this time the homelessness officer will be able to offer you any additionally advice and help that you require.
Following the interview, a formal decision will have to be made about your homeless application. From the answers that you gave in the interview, the Homelessness Officers will be able to decide on the duty that you are owed. In some situations the Council will have a duty to find accommodation for you straight away.
You will be notified of this decision in writing. Shropshire Council aims to get this decision to you within 33 working days.
