Pay your rent

This page is designed to provide you with the information you need to understand the different payment methods, to explain how you can take advantage of each one and to answer any queries you may have.

Can I pay my rent online?

Yes, you can use our online form to make payments into your housing or garage rent account, or your supporting people account.

You can pay all or part of any outstanding amounts and any overpayment will be credited to your account balance.

Payments will not be credited to your account until the end of the working day.

In order to pay your rent online you will need to know your housing rent account reference number.

Please click on the Pay Your Rent Online form on this page

Are Payment Cards the same as Swipe Cards?

Yes. They are sometimes called Swipe Cards because the Cashier 'swipes' the card when you make your payment.

The card has no monetary value and simply contains name and address data particular to the tenant. It does not allow anyone to access your Bank accounts and is not like a debit or credit card. However if you do lose it please let us know immediately, and we will have it replaced within one working day.

You can request a new payment card by completing the housing repayment card request online form on this page.

Where can I make my payments using the Rent Card?

Payments can be made at any Post Office or Payzone outlet, which are often found in shops and petrol stations. There are many outlets in the Shropshire area and you can download a list of your nearest outlets. There are numerous other outlets throughout the country where you can make your payments.

You can also use the card if you pay your rent, in person, at certain Customer Access Points across the County.

Will there be any delays in my payments reaching my rent account?

Payments will be received by the Council on the next working day after you have made your payment.

Tenants will therefore have to make allowances for this when they make their payment, particular at weekends, to ensure they reach us by the fortnight end date shown on the payment calendar.

How will I know if my rent is paid up to date?

We send every tenant a Rent Statement every quarter so they can see the payments they have made. We will continue to send out reminder letters and make visits if accounts fall into arrears, but you can also check your rent balance by contacting the Rent Team who will be happy to send you a Rent Statement at any time. We also suggest you keep your own record by filling in the spaces on the Payment Calendar with the date and amount you paid.

What if I am experiencing problems and I cannot pay my rent?

It is very important that you do not allow your rent account to fall into arrears. Please contact us and we will make every effort to help.
