Resident involvement

Your right to be consulted

As a council tenant or leaseholder, you have the right to be consulted on all matters affecting your tenancy or the housing services you receive.

Getting involved

Getting involved in council services can enable you to have a positive influence on the way these services are delivered to you.

Resident involvement is good news for us because by talking to more residents it gives us a better chance of improving our services to you. It can help solve local problems and help bring communities together.

If you are a tenant or leaseholder of Shropshire Council Landlord Services we welcome and encourage your views and involvement on the range of housing services we provide.

Ways you can get involved

  • Communication - receiving information through our Tenants’ magazine, being informed of new policies and services
  • Consultation - giving us your feedback and suggestions. This could be face-to-face, by telephone, post or e-mail.
  • Empowerment - being a member of a formal decision-making group that meets regularly. You may also represent the views of tenants at these meetings
  • Involvement - by attending specific focus groups and conferences to give us your views, or being a member of a tenant and resident association recognised by Shropshire Council

Tenants and Residents Associations (TRAs)

TRAs are local groups where residents come together to discuss issues that affect their community, and to engage with Shropshire Council and other agencies in order to resolve those issues. Shropshire Council can provide financial and officer support to get your group off the ground. Training is also provided to new and existing TRAs in things such as committee skills, effective meetings, financial matters etc. If there isn’t a TRA in your area, and you and a few others would like to start one, contact your resident involvement officer (see contact details on this page).

Shropshire United Residents Executive (SURE)

Shropshire United Residents Executive (SURE) is an umbrella group which represents tenants from both Bridgnorth and Oswestry and works in partnership with the council's Housing Services to ensure that tenants' views remain firmly on the agenda.

SURE monitor the performance of the Housing Service, are involved in the decision-making process of the Housing Service and are consulted on new policies before they can be accepted.

Loud and Clear

We have now produced our first tenants' newsletter, called Loud and Clear. This was created in partnership with SURE. Follow the links on this page to download a copy.

Your views are important to us and we would be pleased to hear from you. For more information about the group, or if you are interested in getting involved, please contact your local housing office at:
