Shropshire Council tenants and leaseholders are invited to bring any questions or concerns they have to a series of surgeries to be held in Weston Rhyn.
The council’s housing staff will be on hand to give advice and answer questions on housing, and there will be information available to take away. Anyone who would like debt advice, who wants to raise concerns about anti-social behaviour, or who has any housing issues, is encouraged to come along. There will also be information about how to get involved with local tenants groups.
The surgeries will be held at The Community Hall, Weston Rhyn, between 10am and 2pm on the following days: Tuesday 9 March, Tuesday 16 March, Tuesday 23 March, Tuesday 30 March, Tuesday 6 April, Tuesday 13 April.
Councillor Mal Price, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for housing, said “We would like to invite any of our tenants and leaseholders who want to talk about their housing to come along to one of the surgeries. Our staff will be pleased to give advice and information, as well as answering any questions that people have. It will be a good opportunity for people to resolve any concerns they have about their housing, or just to find out more about what the council’s housing services can offer.”
The two local Shropshire Councillors also encouraged people to attend. Councillor Trevor Davies said: “Please come along to one of these sessions and make your comments known. This is a relatively new council with many new councillors and officers who may not know what concerns you have. This is a chance for you to have your say, so please use this opportunity.”
If well attended, the sessions could become a regular fixture and be expanded across the former Oswestry borough area. Councillor David Lloyd said: "It is always good to talk and these surgeries will provide a valuable opportunity for tenants to have face-to-face meetings with those who represent the service. I will try to get to as many sessions as possible and, subject to the response, would like to see similar sessions extended to other tenants and leaseholders in the Oswestry area."
The Bridgnorth area – the other former district that transferred its housing stock to Shropshire Council in 2009 – already runs such advice sessions for tenants and householders.
