We are responsible for the majority of highway bridges in the county but there are a significant number of bridges that are owned and maintained by other organisations.
We maintain records of all these structures and can direct queries about a particular structure to the owner or organisation concerned.
Inspections
We manage our own structures through programmes of inspection and maintenance.
We inspect our highway bridges and cattle grids every two years with a more detailed inspection every six years.
Diving inspections are carried out every six years on bridges founded in deep water, unless floods warrant an earlier inspection. We also carry out unplanned inspections to establish the condition of a bridge or other highway structure following an accident or incident.
We prioritise the repairs and maintenance works required and commission the work according to the available budget.
