Winter maintenance: resources

Our winter maintenance fleet includes:

• 28 salting vehicles, with snow ploughing blades
• nine footway ploughs
• nine snow blowers

Salt

We have introduced a new salt treatment “Safecoat”. This salt has improved capacity to adhere to the road surface. This reduces the volume of salt required, helping us to deliver a cost effective and environmentally aware winter maintenance service.

Salt bins

We maintain 850 salt bins throughout the winter period. You can use salt from your local salt bin to clear pavements, roads and driveways around where you live. If you would like us to replenish your local salt bin, please send us an email, telephone our customer services, or complete the on-line highways fault report.
