Why carry out video surveys?
The purpose of these routine surveys is to provide a current record of the state of the highway network in Shropshire.
A state-of-the-art digital video machine will record the network using various high-definition cameras. The cameras are positioned in the best locations to produce a driver’s eye view and to capture roadside features.
Are you filming my property?
No. Care has been taken to ensure that views of people’s properties are minimised. The roadside will be captured using an oblique camera angle so as to focus on the verge and not the adjoining properties.
What are we using the survey information for?
Information collected from the video surveys is planned for use in developing our transport asset management plan, which is aimed at improving the effectiveness of our highways service. The technology will also permit council officers to take ‘virtual’ drives of the network, reducing the need and associated costs of travelling out to inspect particular sites.
The images will be closely controlled, and are to be subject to the council’s data protection policies. Information on our data protection policies can be found by following the data protection link on this page.
