This is a practical occupation with a lot of variety which comes from both the people you deal with and the types of stock you handle. You will be dealing with drivers and customers and could be handling stock as diverse as chemicals, motor spares or office equipment. Although the work is not office bound you will deal with paper work and computerised stock control systems.
NVQ in Distribution Operations
The NVQ will give you a qualification, which proves your level of competence and is a real advantage when you are thinking of promotion or applying for other jobs.
NVQ Distributive Operations - Level 1
Level 1 is for beginners and those working mostly on routine tasks under supervision.
NVQ Warehousing & Storage - Level 2
Level 2 candidates should be performing a variety of activities and be able to take some responsibility for their own work which will include some complex and non-routine tasks. They will need to be able to take responsibility for their own actions and be able to report accurately to supervisors or those with more experience.
NVQ Warehousing & Storage– Level 3
To undertake a level 3 in Distribution, warehousing and storage, candidates will be competently involved in the application of knowledge and skills in a broad range of varied work activities. They will need to have considerable responsibility and autonomy, and control or guidance of other is often required. Candidates will be working in a variety of contexts, most of which are complex and non-routine.
You will learn:
A variety of skills such as:
- Effective team working
- Maintaining Health and Safety standards
- Receipt and storage of products
- Maintaining effective records for stock in storage
- Quality checking of products
Candidates may work at any supply company where they are required to liaise with other suppliers and manufacturers.
The industry encompasses a diversity of organisations covering grocery products, clothing & footwear, household goods, toiletries, construction materials, office equipment. Businesses within the industry are undergoing change and streamlining with the introduction of technology.
Methods of Learning
NVQ assessment will be carried out in your workplace by an assessor who will visit you on a regular basis. You will produce a portfolio of work showing how you deal with a variety of situations. If extra training and support is required you may attend one of our training centres where you will have access to tutors and assessors.
