Shirehall Library

Located in the Executive Dining Room, the Shirehall Library has books, information and computer access. It is fully self-service and is open to the general public and to Shirehall staff between 12 and 2, Monday to Friday.

How to join

If you do not already have a library membership ticket, please pick up a membership pack. Complete the application form and post it though the slot in the front of the self-service terminal. Your ticket and PIN are included in the pack and you can use them straight away. Please do not take the pack away without completing the form otherwise the ticket will be invalid.

Borrowing books

You may borrow up to 10 books with an existing full membership ticket. If you have just joined you will be limited to two books on the first occasion. Place your membership ticket as indicated on the self-service terminal, then the books, one at a time, as directed. Take your receipt which will list the items and show the latest date for return in three weeks.

Returning books

Please return books by the date indicated. Using the self-service terminal, choose the return option and follow the on-screen instructions. Ensure all the books are cleared and then place them back on a spinner. You can return books borrowed from the Shirehall Library to other Shropshire libraries, but please do not return books here that have been borrowed from other libraries.

Items returned overdue will incur fines at the current rate and this will be added to your library account. Payments cannot be made at this library. You may clear your account by either visiting a staffed library or by making an online payment through the library website.

Using a computer

To use the computer that is in the library you will need your membership number and your PIN (Personal Identification Number). It is self-service and once logged on you will be allowed 15 minutes. If there is no-one waiting to use the computer you may extend for a further maximum of 15 minutes towards the end of your initial session. Please read and abide by the acceptable use policy.

There is broadband internet access as well as a full Microsoft® Office Professional™ software package.

No printing facility is available, but you are welcome to save web pages and other work onto floppy disk or flash memory stick. You can also burn onto your own recordable compact disc.
