Access to reading and information

- Continual programme of improvements including induction loops, flat or ramped access and automatic opening doors
Concessionary borrowers
- Concessionary borrowers ticket for people with disabilities, their full-time carers and housebound people
- Free requests for books and talking books on CD and tape
- Free loans and requests for the majority of DVDs
- Reduced fines on overdue items
Home Library Service
- For housebound people, full-time carers of adults and children with disabilities
- Home delivery by friends, relatives or volunteers
People's Network computers
- Public access computers with free access to the Internet
- Help with setting up an email account and sending emails
- Specialist software for visually impaired people
Friends' groups
- Help with fund-raising, improvements to local library services and volunteering in the library, including delivery to housebound people in the community
- Membership of friends' groups is open to anyone with an interest in supporting their local library
Reading groups
- Reading groups in libraries that are open to all
- Reading groups for older people
Training
- Staff are trained in awareness of those who are hard of hearing, with low vision or with a disability, and awareness of older people's needs
