From your local library
Libraries in Shropshire provide a wealth of resources for children of primary school age and their parents, carers and teachers. Each library has a good selection of books and other material to stimulate reading and learning. Special events and activities are organised such as the Summer Reading Challenge, Book Quest and class visits. Some libraries have Homework Clubs. Please contact your local library to find out more.
Through the School Library Service
The School Library Service is dedicated to providing a range of resources and advice to schools, nurseries and playgroups in the Shropshire Council and the Telford and Wrekin Council areas. Each class in a subscribing Primary or Special School may borrow the resources described here.
Topic/Resource collections are selected and supplied according to specific requirements. They can include books, big books, group reading sets, videos and DVDs, CDs, posters and picture packs. Each class may borrow 30 items for one term. Occasionally boxes have to be restricted to 20 items if the subject is in great demand.
Classroom reading books are loaned to the school on the basis of two books per child on roll. They can be exchanged as often as needed from the School Library Service or from the mobile library which visits schools.
Teachers may also borrow Storysacks, artefact boxes and Museum-in-a-box collections for limited periods. Most items can be requested or reserved.
For further details of the services to Primary and Special Schools provided by the School Library service please follow the contact details. Teachers working within Shropshire Council can access a Shropshire School Library Service section within SchoolsNet, the intranet site especially for schools in Shropshire.
