Libraries are everywhere. They are safe, warm, comfortable spaces to chill and meet friends, work on PCs, browse the stock and find information.
You can choose to borrow or not - you do not need a library card to use the building. All libraries have computers for word processing and free internet access, and some have free Wi Fi access. Library staff can also help you find what you need.
Take a look around. Is it OK? Do you and your friends feel comfortable there? What could be done to make it better? You can help by making suggestions or even become involved in re-designing it. If you are really artistic, we are always on the lookout for students to paint windows, put together displays and help younger children.
Volunteering opportunities are available, with certificates to help you with job or college interviews. For more details, why not ask to speak to a team librarian?
Other ways in which you can help to make it your library include:
- recommending books and music
- writing reviews (see the link below)
- helping people to use the computers
- doing some voluntary work or work experience at the library
- suggesting, planning and even organising events or activities
It could all be a lot of fun and it would be something else to put on your CV or mention at job interviews.
