From your local library
Libraries in Shropshire provide a wealth of resources for very young children and their parents and carers and to those providing services through nurseries and playgroups.
Each library has a good selection of books and other material to stimulate reading and learning. Nurseries and playgroups can borrow collections of books free of charge from libraries. Just register with them for a special ticket. Special events and activities are organised such as Rhymetimes, Storytimes and library visits. Please contact your local library to find out more.
Through the School Library Service
The School Library Service is dedicated to providing a range of resources and advice to schools, nurseries and playgroups in the Shropshire Council and the Telford and Wrekin Council areas. Nurseries and Playgroups may borrow the following resources:
- Stories
- Rhymes
- Board books
- Topic books
- Big books
- Picture packs
- Storysacks
You are welcome to visit the School Library Service in Shrewsbury or resources can be delivered to your nearest public library.
Shropshire Early Years and Childcare grant funding has been secured to provide a free package of Foundation Stage resources to nurseries and playgroups in the Shropshire Council area. The package offers up to 20 items, issued for a term but exchangeable as often as needed. Telford and Wrekin Council settings are welcome to borrow similar resources but grant funding is not available to the School Library Service so there will be a subscription charge. Further details of the service in the two areas can be found by opening the attachments on this page.
