Shropshire's top ten nursery rhymes

As part of celebrations for National Year of Reading, libraries in Shropshire invited children under five to vote for their favourite nursery rhyme or song.

The votes have been counted and 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star' is the winner with 'Baa Baa Black Sheep' coming second.

The top ten nursery rhymes in Shropshire are:

1. Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
2. Baa Baa Black Sheep
3. Humpty Dumpty
4. Row Row Row Your Boat
5. The Wheels on the Bus
6. Incy Wincy Spider
7. Old MacDonald had a Farm
8. Wind the Bobbin up
9. The Grand Old Duke of York
10. Hickory Dickory Dock

These rhymes have been printed into a special rhyme booklet which is available at all libraries in Shropshire. Anyone with children under five years old can go along and pick up a free copy.

The booklet will also be used in Bookstart Bounce and Rhyme sessions in libraries. The sessions are free and allow parents and carers the opportunity to sing rhymes and songs with their babies and young children in an informal and fun setting.
