People's Network - free internet access

People's Network workstation

Over 180 computers are available for you to use free of charge in libraries across Shropshire. All libraries, except mobile libraries, have broadband connections. You can learn new skills, carry out research, contact family and friends through email, access the world wide web or find information.

Computer access operates on a self-service system which allows users to logon using their library membership number and PIN.
You can apply for membership and obtain a PIN by following the "Joining and using the library" link on this page or you can visit your local library.

Visitors can also use the People's Network computers, just ask the staff.

You can book computer time in advance by phone, email or in person. For contact details of individual libraries follow the "Find a library" link.

The People's Network computers are in heavy demand so there may be restrictions on the total time you may use them in any one day.

Everyone who uses the computers must agree to comply with the Acceptable Public Computer Use Policy, a copy of which can be found by following the link to "Computer use in libraries".

There are charges for printing and the purchase of removable media such as CD-R discs.

Wi-Fi Hotspots

Wi-Fi Internet access is available at Bridgnorth Library, Craven Arms Library, Ludlow Library, Market Drayton Library, Oswestry Library, Shirehall Library and the Reference Library and Shropshire Archives in Shrewsbury. For more information please follow the link to "Wireless Internet Access at the library".

Broadplaces

There may also be other public internet access in your community such as the Broadplaces. At these centres everyone can access computers with a broadband connection. Many run drop in sessions, so If you need support, there are often volunteers on hand to help you out. If you prefer to use your own laptop, most of the Broadplaces have Wi-Fi, so you can take it along and access the internet.

If you attend a drop in session, some Broadplaces may ask for a small donation to cover their costs. For further information about the Broadplaces, please follow the link to Shropshire Broadplaces on this page.
