Libraries in Shropshire provide a wealth of resources for children of secondary school age and their parents, carers and teachers. Each library has a good selection of books and other material to stimulate reading and learning. Special events and activities are organised such as the Summer Reading Challenge and class visits. Some libraries have Homework Clubs. Please contact your local library to find out more.
The School Library Service is dedicated to providing a range of resources and advice to Secondary Schools in the area covered by Shropshire Council and Telford and Wrekin Council. Literacy
The School Library Service can provide a superb range of fiction, picture books for older readers and poetry. There are Group Reading sets, Talking Books, videos and DVDs. Services include:
- block loan of fiction for the LRC to extend range and choice
- book boxes for the classroom
- support for literacy summer schools, school book weeks, etc.
- themed book boxes.
Curriculum support
The School Library Service has information books, resource packs, posters and prints, videos and DVDs. There is also an Art/Design special collection. Services include:
- block loan of information books for the LRC
- book boxes for the classroom
- information skills training
- input to course planning
- liaison with museums, libraries and other agencies.
