Deposition of archaeology archives

The Museum Service is the main repository for the finds and records generated by archaeology projects within the County. These projects range from full scale excavations to simply observing the digging of a small service trench in the centre of one of Shropshire's historic towns.

The storage and curation of an archaeology archive is a time consuming and costly process. In order to maximise the museum's available storage space and to ensure that archives can be easily accessible, basic guidelines have been introduced for Archaeology Units and heritage bodies working within the County.

The Museum Service is prepared to accept material from archaeological fieldwork if specified conditions are met. However, the Museum Service reserves the right to refuse to accept any archaeological material which has been retrieved without regard for these conditions or the standards for fieldwork and archive generation defined by The Institute of Field Archaeologists, the MLA and English Heritage.
