Much Wenlock Museum
Located in the heart of this delightful Shropshire market town you'll find a little gem: Much Wenlock Museum is a local museum with an international story to tell.

The small town of Much Wenlock may seem like an unlikely place to search for the origins of the modern Olympic Games. Yet here in 1850 Dr. William Penny Brookes founded the Wenlock Olympian Society and the town's annual Olympian Games. Dr. Brookes remained throughout his life a leading member of the National Olympian Association and worked to promote the moral and physical benefits of physical education.

Much Wenlock Museum tells William Penny Brookes' story. Other displays also explain the archaeology of south-west Shropshire, the history of Much Wenlock from Medieval times onwards and the natural science of Wenlock Edge, particular its internationally important geology.
