The first gallery of the museum tells the story of the museum and gives the visitor an introduction to the town and the local wildlife.
The town of Ludlow is one of Europe’s most beautiful towns, whose history is partly preserved in its buildings and streets.
These are the main attractions and important places to visit in Ludlow:
- Ludlow castle
- St Lawrence' Church
- Broad Street
- The Broad Gate
- Old Street
- Mill Street
- Corve Street
- The Butter Cross
- Assembly Rooms
There has been a museum collection in Ludlow since 1833.
Founded by the Ludlow Natural History Society it has continued to grow over the years and although at its core was a collection of natural history objects, the Society also took in many items of historical interest from the town and the Ludlow area.
The location of the Museum has changed a number of times since its foundation and it has occupied buildings in Mill Street, The Buttercross and The Assembly Rooms with additional sites in the town used to store the many items that could not be displayed.
Ludlow is a very appealing destination for those interested in wildlife. The diversity of habitats in the Ludlow area provides a home for a wide variety of animals and plants and can be attributed to the underlying geology that has formed the landscape and to the historical development of the town.
