Steam Threshing Weekends 2011

early-photograph-of-steam-threshing.jpeg

The Historic Working Farm at Acton Scott closes the 2011 season with threshing demonstrations over the weekends of October 22 and 23, and October 29 and 30.

Taking centre stage over both weekends is a 1901 Fowler Steam Engine from Whitney-on-Wye, which will provide all of the power needed for the farm's Marshall threshing box to process the season's harvest of wheat and oats.

Each of the Steam Threshing Weekends will recreate what was once a common sight in the countryside at the turn of the 19th century: the arrival at a farm of an entirely different source of power.

For opening times, prices and further information, please follow the links on this page.

Councillor Stephen Charmley, Portfolio Holder for Culture and Leisure at Shropshire Council, encouraged people to go to Acton Scott to see how these practices have changed over the years:

“There really is something for everyone at the Acton Scott Historic Working Farm. Both weekends have an action packed programme, so I would urge you to go along and join in the fun. Recognised nationally as one of the most important 'living history' attractions in the country, Acton Scott allows its visitors to step back in time and explore a rural landscape which has altered little during the past century.”
