Meres day centre in Ellesmere

The Meres Day Centre provides a range of services for older people living in north west Shropshire from Welshampton in the east and Ruyton XI Towns and Baschurch in the south, including the market towns of Ellesmere and Oswestry and their satellite villages.

The Meres Day Centre occupies the ground floor of the old Ellesmere Cottage Hospital on Trimpley Street next to the Ellesmere Medical Practice. A full range of health and social care services is available to older people attending the day centre to give a convenient and truly person-centred service.

Between 22 and 24 service users attend each week-day. There is a different group each day and some people attend for more than one day a week.

The Day Centre offers:

  • Day Care for 5 days a week, Monday to Friday. Open from 8.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday.
  • Trained and Experienced Staff
  • Bathing service
  • Laundry service
  • Hairdressing service
  • Access to medical and professional services
  • Organised trips using the centre minibus to give opportunities otherwise unavailable to those living in the rural area
  • Opportunities to take up new or rediscover forgotten hobbies and interests
  • Commitment to Healthy Eating by the provision of well cooked and nutritionally balanced meals, Special diets catered for
  • Sun patio and a choice of lounges
  • Transport to and from the Centre can be provided from people’s homes in north west Shropshire

Working with the community, we offer the following facilities from the building:

  • District nursing and specialist nursing services supporting our members
  • Community information service
  • A base for health, social care and allied professionals to meet
  • The Daphne Smith Resource Centre, which is used by Occupational Therapists for assessment and rehabilitation purposes and offers its users a ‘home style’ kitchenette where they can improve their daily living skills. The Daphne Smith Resource Centre is also used by the Hard of Hearing clinic once a month
  • New for 2006 is the Chiropody/Podiatry clinic which provides a service for the people living in the surrounding district

The staff at the Meres Day Centre have attained or are working towards their NVQ in Care which enables us to work under the guidance of health and social care staff by providing assistance with care planning and helping monitor, record and assess progress towards members’ personal goals.
